The short version
Evie & Theo is a storybook maker for a grown-up to use together with a child. Here's the heart of it: we don't keep the stories you make. Once your story is shown to you, we don't store what you typed or the story we created. The only exception is if you choose to send us feedback and tick the box to share that story's details with us. We never sell your data, and we never show ads.
Please don't type a child's full name, address, or other identifying details — a first name or nickname is all you need.
Who this service is for
Evie & Theo is designed to be operated by an adult (18 or older), making a story together with a child. It is not intended for children to use on their own, and we do not provide accounts or logins for children. The grown-up using the site is responsible for what is typed in and for any child sitting alongside them.
What happens to what you type
To create your storybook, the details you enter — your story idea, the chosen flavor and art style, the reader's age (used only to set the reading level and length), and any optional extras like character names, the setting, or a magical element — are sent to the AI services that write and illustrate the book and check that the idea is appropriate for children. We then show you the finished story and don't keep it: not the story, not what you entered. We don't build a profile of you, and stories are never shared publicly or shown to anyone else.
The one exception is feedback. If a story doesn't turn out well and you give it a thumbs-down, the feedback box has a consent checkbox. Only if you tick it do we keep that story and your details — so we can look into what went wrong — and notify the site's owner to review it. Leave it unticked and we simply get your rating, nothing more.
Email addresses
If you ask us to email a finished book to you, or you send a message through the contact form, we use the email address you provide only to do exactly that. We don't add you to any list or use your address for marketing.
Keeping the site safe and counting visits
We use a bot-protection check to tell real visitors from bots, and privacy-friendly analytics that counts visits in aggregate without tracking cookies and without building advertising profiles. We also take basic, automated steps to prevent abuse and spam.
The services that help make your story
To create your story and run the site, we rely on a few trusted providers. Your story is written and safety-checked by Anthropic's AI, and the pictures are drawn by the FLUX AI image model; we use other trusted providers for hosting and security, analytics, and (only if you leave a tip) payment processing. They process only what's needed to do their job, under their own terms. We never sell your information or share it for advertising.
Children's privacy
Evie & Theo is meant to be used by a grown-up together with a child, and the grown-up is the person interacting with the site. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Please don't enter a child's full name, contact details, photo, or other identifying information into the story form. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
Storage on your device
For convenience, your browser remembers your most recent form details (for about a day) and, if you email yourself a book, the email address you used — so you don't have to retype them. This stays in your own browser's local storage, on your device, not on our servers; you can clear it anytime through your browser settings.
How long we keep things
By default, nothing — there's nothing kept to begin with. The feedback you choose to share (above) is kept only as long as we need it to look into the problem, and you can ask us to delete it anytime.
Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live (for example, under GDPR in the UK/EU or the CCPA in California), you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal information, or to object to certain processing. To make a request — including deleting feedback you've shared — just get in touch.
Where your data is processed
Evie & Theo runs on a global hosting network, and the AI services that write and illustrate your story may process data in the United States, so the details you submit to create a story may be handled in countries other than your own. We rely on these providers' safeguards for such transfers.
Security
The site is served over HTTPS with strict security headers, and stories are never shared publicly. No method of transmission or storage is ever 100% secure, but we work to protect your information.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we'll change the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
